An issue concerning potential liabilities for Putnam County property owners has come to the attention of your Board of County Commissioners.
Put simply: placing obstructive objects along the road in the county right of way is dangerous and may lead to damage to vehicles and personal injury.
While a comprehensive review of the issue is underway, one thing appears clear, if objects placed in the right of way cause damage or injury, there may be legal liability for citizens.
Recently, a resident of Putnam County, concerned about his neighbors, has been providing numerous requests for county enforcement action, including photos and addresses of dangerous objects in the right of way.
Putnam County is studying the issue. Until that process has been completed, however, I am asking for every homeowner with a qualifying right of way to do their own inspection.
If you have placed any type of object that may obstruct vehicular use of the right of way, or cause damage, please consider a course of corrective action.
