Dear Editor,
I am inspired this Labor Day morning to write a message to The Eatonton Messenger because of everyday, ordinary experiences with church, family, neighbors, and great generals of faith that I listen to both on the radio at GNN 102.7 FM and K-Love 106.7 FM, as well as on YouTube.
I just had a visit a few minutes ago with a neighbor who is a great-grandpa, and he came to my driveway with two of his great-grandchildren from North Carolina, visiting this weekend at a family reunion of 75 at Rock Eagle. I was pleased and honored that my neighbor would bring his great-grandchildren to meet me and just talk for a few minutes. The oldest was learning to drive his great-grandpa’s golf cart. They’ll be coming back to visit at Thanksgiving, and I hope to meet their parents then as well.
I can’t express enough how wonderful family reunions were in my life. My Aunt Leslie Segars Carruth of Winder, Georgia, was the primary family member who kept our Segars family reunions going for many, many years.
Now, what is left of the Segars family is eight first cousins and their family issues. The other side of my family is the Daniels, with my late mother’s parents originating from Godfrey, Georgia. Left there are only six first cousins and their family groups. And my first cousin in South Carolina has a very large family.
Wouldn’t I love for us to have cousins’ reunions and catch up on at least three decades?
Our blessed hope that we must ever remind ourselves of in this world is we are passing through like a vapor.
God’s promise is that if we keep our eyes on Him and trust Him daily, we will have joy in the midst of our trials and tribulations.
May God bless you and give you His shalom, Margaret Gail Segars Rainey An Eatonton grandma praying for family restoration
