Regarding de-annexation issues, which involve moving annexed taxable property from the city back to the county, there are concerns. A meeting was held by the City of Eatonton, but none of the seven applicants showed up. It’s hard to imagine someone filing an application and then not attending the public hearing. Residents are now claiming notification was never sent. Records requests are being filed to provide notice, agenda, summary, and minutes of the meetings. More information on this will be provided later.
The Jimmy Davis Park debacle continues, with the next Advisory Committee meeting verbally announced for August 12, 2024, by (Eatonton Councilmember) Janie Reid. The meeting on July 12 was scheduled for 5 o’clock; however, when residents started arriving at 4:45, the meeting had already begun and ended before the announced start time of 5:00.
Residents have commented that Janie Reid is taking credit for improvements in Jimmy Davis Park, even though the committee she chairs was created in the first quarter of 2024, while the work she claims credit for was completed in 2023.
