Dear Eatonton,
Company is coming, and we appreciate everyone sprucing up their storefronts, cutting their grass, planting flowers, and picking up trash around town.
We want Eatonton to look its very best on Saturday, Aug. 17, so we need everyone’s help.
Our “company” will be more than 600 members of the Georgia Trust and others who are coming for this summer’s “Expedition to Eatonton.”
For those not familiar with the Trust, a quote from its vision statement may help: “At the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation, we are helping Georgians to understand and appreciate the irreplaceable value of historic buildings and places and their relevance to modern life.
“We envision Georgians who promote careful stewardship and active use of these diverse resources and recognize the economic and cultural benefits of preservation.”
In addition to many programs sponsored by the Trust that protect and educate, it also promotes tours and events all over Georgia to showcase treasures found in both small towns and large cities.
We are delighted that they have chosen Eatonton as the destination for this summer’s “Expedition.”
Trust members and other preservation enthusiasts from around the state have been invited to explore a sampling of the unique architecture and historic sites of our city and they have responded in great number, as have our local citizens.
We couldn’t host this event without the generous cooperation of wonderful homeowners, business owners, and local volunteers who will be helping that day. We know we live in a great little town, and it is always a joy to share it with visitors.
So, on August 17th, if you notice folks you don’t recognize driving and walking around like they may be lost, please greet them with your wonderful smile and just say, “Welcome to Eatonton.”
Many thanks, Lyn Romine, Murray & Mary Air, Jim Marshall, Susan Usry, Maggie Milner, and Lauren Singleton
