James Leonard Barfield, Jr., age 86, of Putnam County, passed away Sunday, December 28, 2025.
Funeral services for James Barfield, Jr. were conducted Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home of Milledgeville. The family received friends at the Williams Funeral Home on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 1:00 pm until the service hour.
Interment was held on Friday, January 9, 2026, at 11:00 am in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
A native of Baldwin County, James was born on September 5, 1939, to the late James Leonard Barfield and the late Mae Hightower Barfield. James was also preceded in death by his son, James “Lynn” Barfield, III. He cut hair in Macon and Lake Oconee as a Master Barber until he moved to Lake Oconee around 1992. He attended the Holiness Church and was a member of the Loyal Order of Elks for over 35 years, serving as Exalted Ruler five times, among other positions. James was a Veteran, having served in the U.S. Air Force.
James is survived by his wife, Hazel Smith Barfield of Lake Oconee; his daughters, Renee (& Mike) Black of Eatonton, and Lisa (& Danny) Bruce of Dallas, GA; Step-children, Wanda Phillips of Milledgeville, Robbie (& Angie) Ramage of Eatonton, Ronnie (& Marie) Ramage of Milledgeville, and Andy Spires, Jr. of Milledgeville; his sister, Beverly (& Jimmy) Knight of Milledgeville; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; and six great great grandchildren also survive.
