Lottie Marie Maddox Lewis

Lottie Marie Maddox Lewis, age 90, of Morrow, Georgia, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, September 26, 2026, at the home of her daughter, Cindy, in Oviedo, Florida, surrounded by her loving family.

Marie was born November 11, 1935, in Eatonton, Georgia, the daughter of Notley Glenwood Maddox and Lottie Dearman Maddox. She grew up with her family on a dairy farm southwest of Eatonton, in an area formerly known as Note, Georgia. A proud 1953 graduate of Eatonton High School, Marie made history that same year as the first Dairy Queen of the Putnam County Dairy Festival.

On March 1, 1958, Marie married her devoted husband, James Everett Lewis Sr., in Catoosa County, Georgia. Together, Marie and James shared 57 years of marriage and built a life centered around family, faith, hard work, and love.

Marie devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family and took great pride in raising her three children, Mark, Cindy, and James “Jay.” She was always there to support her children and was actively involved in their lives and activities. She volunteered with the PTA, served as a Room Mother, coached baseball and softball, and was a Den Leader with the Cub Scouts. She was also active in the Methodist Church.

Later in life, Marie discovered another great passion: crafting. A talented and determined perfectionist, she could turn her hand to nearly any craft. Over the years, she enjoyed needlepoint, ceramics, counted crossstitch, sewing, poetry, and folk-art painting. Her creativity and talent eventually grew into her own crafting business, “My Way.”

Marie and James traveled extensively throughout Georgia attending craft shows, where Marie became especially well known for her love of and expertise in “Uncle Remus” memorabilia and paraphernalia. Her creativity, attention to detail, and love for the stories and characters became a special part of her legacy.

Those who knew Marie will remember her for her strong work ethic, generous spirit, creativity, determination, and deep love for her family and friends. She gave so much of herself to the people she loved, and the memories she created will continue to live on through generations of her family.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Notley Glenwood Maddox and Lottie Dearman Maddox; her beloved husband, James Everett Lewis Sr.; her sister, Mary Glyn Maddox Spivey (Frank); and her son, Robbie Poole.

She is survived by her children, Mark Lewis (Kim) of Stockbridge, Georgia; Cindy Lewis McElhinney (Bret) of Oviedo, Florida; and James E. “Jay” Lewis Jr. (Debbie) of Carrollton, Georgia; her nephew, Holt Spivey (Stacy) of Eatonton, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-nephew.

Marie leaves behind a lifetime of love, family traditions, creativity, and memories that will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of her family and friends.
