Dear Editor,
I want to extend my sincere thanks to the residents of Putnam County who attended our recent community open house on the proposed Putnam County Stone quarry project. Your participation demonstrated the connection that residents have to their community, and we truly appreciate the time you took to learn more and share your thoughts.
We were heartened by the feedback we received and grateful for the thoughtful questions. Our sense is that participants walked away with greater clarity. Many attendees highlighted the potential for new jobs, which could bring stable employment to local families. Others noted how the quarry could support existing industries, like construction and manufacturing, by providing essential materials right here in your backyard. We also heard appreciation for our commitment to transparency as we shared detailed plans and studies upfront to keep everyone informed.
Of course, we understand there are valid concerns, and we’re committed to addressing them head-on. On water and air quality, our project is designed to meet and exceed Georgia’s strict state regulations. We will use advanced controls for dust and stormwater management, ensuring no harmful impacts to air standards or groundwater. Regarding nearby Lakes Sinclair and Oconee, the site is carefully located more than two miles away, with buffers and reclamation plans that protect these vital resources for generations to come.
Truck traffic was another key topic. We’ve planned access via Dennis Station Road, a collector route built for this kind of use, and we’re continuing to look at safety improvements. We’ll work closely with county officials to implement protective measures and timing that respect our neighbors.
At Putnam County Stone, we are not just building a quarry — we are investing in Putnam County’s future. This project taps into valuable local resources while prioritizing environmental stewardship and community well-being. We’re grateful for the dialogue and welcome ongoing input as we move forward.
We plan to host another community open house Feb. 26, at the Putnam County Administration Building (117 Putnam Dr., Eatonton) from 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Thank you again for your engagement.
