A Putnam County resident lost his boat and motorcycle in a fire last week, and a farmer lost some hay in a different fire, Putnam County Fire Chief Thomas McClain said.
A field on Little Circle was being burned to clear out sagebrush when the fire spread into nearby hayfields. Putnam County Fire Department firefighters were called in to keep the flames from spreading farther. McClain said no one was injured.
“It didn’t damage buildings or fences and didn’t burn anything but the grass and hay fields, so it’ll all be pretty and green in a couple of weeks,” he added.
Friday night, a garage on the 400 block of South Steel Bridge Road caught fire.
McClain said it “was already a total loss when we got there.”
The building was a detached garage, and the firefighters were able to keep it from spreading to other houses and buildings. McClain said some gas cans, lawn mowers, a boat, and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle were stored in the garage at the time, and the fire destroyed them all.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
