Dr. William Lafayette Powell Jr.

Dr. William Lafayette Powell, Jr., was a devoted physician, husband, father, and grandfather whose life was defined by faith, service, and love for his family and community.

Born in Eatonton, Georgia, to Reverend William and Mrs. Carrie Powell, Lafayette was raised in a home rooted in faith and purpose. A Putnam County scholar-athlete, he went on to earn his undergraduate degree from Clark College (Clark Atlanta University) and his medical degree from Morehouse School of Medicine.

Throughout his 40-year medical career, Lafayette provided compassionate, comprehensive care to patients and families across every stage of life. He served the metro Atlanta community through the White Oak Family Practice, Piedmont Healthcare, First Plus Medical, and Berkeley Medical and Rehabilitation Center, leaving a lasting impact on those in his care.

His greatest joy was his family. He married the love of his life, Sheila, on July 28, 1990, and together they raised two daughters, Ariel and Jordan. He was also a proud grandfather to two grandsons, Ade and Temi. Lafayette was a present force, always there for the big and small moments.

In his personal time, he found happiness in fishing, hunting, grilling, and traveling. He also never missed a chance to cheer on his favorite sports teams: the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Braves, Falcons, and Hawks.

His family takes comfort knowing he is at rest and enjoying his heavenly rewards after a lifetime of caring for others. Well done, Lafayette.
