The Gatewood boys golf team capped a strong season with a runner-up finish April 27 at Harbor Club in Greensboro.
The Gators posted a team score of 347, 11 strokes behind state champion David Emanuel Academy.
Gatewood, however, held off region rival Brentwood by four strokes to secure second place outright. Heritage School (352), Southwest Georgia (353), and Heritage Prep (354) rounded out the top six teams in the standings.
Gatewood’s scoring group was led by Mikey Padula, who carded an 82. Cooper Craine followed with an 83, while Lathan Hillin shot 87. Colton Painter rounded out the counting scores with a 95. Carson Fried also competed, but his score was not included in the team total.
Gatewood finished the year as one of the top programs in Class 2A after securing a region championship earlier in the season.
“We did not have our best day (at the state tournament), but a second-place state runner-up is a heck of a year,” head coach Doug Price said.
