Late last month, Putnam County District 1 Commissioner Tom McElhenney was appointed vice chair of the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia's (ACCG) Revenue and Finance Policy Committee.
ACCG President Marc Demott of Colquitt County made the appointment.
“Policy development and legislative advocacy are foundational aspects of our organization,” ACCG Executive Director Dave Wills said. “The Governmental Affairs staff looks forward to working with the new leaders of our policy committees to drive discussions and help lead change on issues of significance to all Georgia counties.”
The ACCG Revenue and Finance Policy Committee helps to shape policies on local sales and use taxes, property taxes, and user fees to ensure state-level decisions support county finances and taxpayers. McElhenney will serve alongside Newton County Commissioner Demond Mason, who was named chair.
“I am honored to have been selected,” McElhenney said of his new role. “I am grateful for the opportunity to help advance policies and decisions that serve the best interests of local taxpayers and strengthen our communities.”
ACCG (accg.org) works on behalf of county officials and their communities by providing public policy and legislative advocacy, leadership development, civic and community engagement initiatives, insurance and retirement programs tailored to local government needs, and other cost-saving programs.
Formed in 1914 when county officials came together to help fund the state’s first highway department, ACCG today operates as an advocate for Georgia’s counties.
