This Friday, Sept. 25, everyone is encouraged to help provide new books to children by supporting Putnam Reads and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. Local support helps make it possible for children in our community to receive a new, free, high-quality book each month from birth to age 5.
Putnam Reads is joining the annual “Adopt a Reader” campaign with a new tradition created by The Dollywood Foundation to honor Dolly Parton’s generous heart and lifelong commitment to children.
For more than 20 years, Putnam County volunteers have actively worked to ensure our youngest citizens have free books in their homes. Beginning with Ferst Foundation for Childhood Literacy, then with Ferst Readers, and now with Dolly Parton’s Inspiration Library as Putnam Reads, local dedication to childhood literacy has not wavered.
Dolly often called her Local Imagination Library Partners the “true heroes” of her program, and we’re grateful to live in a community that continues her spirit of giving.
In Putnam County, 952 children currently receive a free book each month through Putnam Reads and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Behind every book is a community of people who believe in the power of giving: donors, volunteers, local partners, and supporters who help make this program possible.
On Friday, Sept. 25, Give Like Dolly Day will help Putnam Reads continue to reach children and families in Putnam County, building a community where children can grow up surrounded by the joy of books and reading. For $31, you can “adopt a reader” for a full year; however, any amount would be gratefully accepted and appreciated.
