Wandering and wondering

Georgia Benjamin-Smith

I am wandering and wondering, as usual.

Sometimes it gets me in trouble, and sometimes I get a pat on the back, but I promise I will continue, no matter what happens.

Now, let me tell you about some happenings. On September 11th, Mothers Against Crime sponsored its annual candlelight vigil at Gatewood School.

The candlelight vigil is an awareness program reminding people of domestic violence.

The program was well planned, and I believe it made everyone more aware.

I received many hugs and thank-yous from everyone there, but especially from the cheerleaders. I used to read to most of them when they were very young. I also received a beautiful floral arrangement.

On September 25th, another program was held on the football field at Putnam County Middle School to make people aware of this horrible sickness: domestic violence.

We hope one day to come up with a real cure.

The program is sponsored by Mothers Against Crime, the Domestic Violence Task Force, and Circle of Love in Greensboro. I also attended a luncheon at Rock Eagle late this month, sponsored by the PGH Auxiliary. I have been a Pink Lady for over 40 years at Putnam General Hospital.

The speaker for the luncheon was Mr. Thomas Goss, the new hospital CEO and administrator.

He was very, very informative, and we all learned a lot about our hospital and its future plans.

There are so many activities around our beautiful city and county.

I wish I could attend them all, but I realize it is just not possible.

In other news, Mothers Against Crime is staying busy, looking forward to another year with the community, and especially the young people.

Oh, and we have two new members. I will tell you all about them in my next session.

We are truly blessed at Mothers Against Crime because we have so many good people helping us and we’re 34 years strong.

I must brag for a second.

Oh, and I know you want to know what is going on at our house, too.

Here goes. Work continues and progress shows. I am still sleeping in a recliner and living out of boxes, but thanks to my daughter Kim and Pastor Michelle Brown, and a great, great crew, we will make it soon. I will raise up my hands and say a big thank you, thank you, thank you.

My message for today is to remember that if you carry worries with you and never lay them down, even to sleep, you become less and less able to meet the challenges they present. Worry is a form of self-destruction, while faith is a means of daily renewal.
