Shelton signs with GMC to play soccer

    Putnam County’s outstanding keeper Tesa Shelton has played her way into a college scholarship.

    After recording seven shutouts in 13 games during the 2022 season, Shelton has signed with Georgia Military College to continue her exploits on the pitch.

    According to Putnam County head coach Brandi Barling, Shelton has been a member of the team since her freshman year and has developed into a fine keeper.

    Barling said Shelton had played mostly on the back line until this year when the side needed a keeper.

    “She stepped up big for us,” Barling said.

    Since Putnam often plays GMC’s high school during the season, the college coaches get a good look at Putnam players.

    Barling said a Putnam County player already attending GMC told college coaches they should scout Shelton.
