An insect fogger apparently caused an explosion in an Eatonton home, but injured no one, fire officials say.
A resident on Sunnyland Drive called 911 a few minutes before 9 a.m. Tuesday, April 19 and reported an explosion started a fire in her kitchen, according to Eatonton Fire Chief Eugene Hubert.
The resident had activated six insect pesticide foggers under the kitchen cabinets in her doublewide mobile home. About three feet away on one side was a gas range with the pilot light on, and nearby on the other side was a refrigerator. One of those appliances, most likely the gas stove, caused “a big bang and explosion,” Hubert said.
“Those roach bombs are the most dangerous things and people don’t realize it. They frequently set something off,” the fire chief said.
Firefighters from Eatonton and Putnam County Fire Departments were able to contain the fire to the kitchen, but the cabinets under the countertop were destroyed, according to Hubert.
