The Putnam County Lady Eagles Varsity volleyball team will be happy to be back home after having been on the road for the past two weeks.
Playing in Augusta on Aug. 23, the Lady Eagles dominated with a pair of 25-17 wins over Butler, but their match with region leader Davidson Fine Arts the same night was not as successful, with Davidson winning 25-3 and 25-16 in two-straight games.
The Lady Eagles were back in action two days later, playing Butler again, but this time in Athens. Putnam got off to a good start with a close 25-21 victory in the first game, followed by a 25-13 game going Butler’s way in the second, and then finally scoring the match win with a 25-5 final for the tiebreaker.
On Aug. 30, PCHS volleyball remained on the road team against Washington County High School in Sandersville, where the Lady Eagles won another close game 25-22 but dropped the next two with scores of 25-13 and 25-18 to lose the match. The Burke County Bears also were there that night and handed a pair of 25-5 losses to the Putnam team.
The Lady Eagles were sitting third in the region heading into regional play on Sep. 6, at home against nearby rival Baldwin County and current region leader Davidson in a pair of important matches. They will also be back in action on Sept. 15, in PCHS Volleyball Senior Night and hope for a large crowd of local fans to cheer them on.
