SOFTBALL: PCHS dominates Glen Hills

With their first month of play coming to an end, the Putnam County High School Lady Eagles softball team enjoyed a good day on Aug. 30, scoring a 17-1 win over Glen Hills in a short game.

It was three-up-threedown for Glen Hills in their first at bat, but Putnam was able to get plenty of swings and a couple of walks their first time at the plate to rack up seven runs.

Glen Hills came up to bat with a bit more game in the second inning, but Lady Eagles pitcher Jada McDerment ultimately assisted in three speedy outs, the final being a play from McDerment to Sam Spasik on first base.

Then Putnam came out, scoring another eight runs after a series of triples, doubles, singles and steals.

Despite the score, the Glen Hills girls were not giving up as the third inning began. Their first hitter of the inning was quick, getting Glen Hills its first run of the game, but that turned out to be all they managed to score.

For the Putnam team, Kaydence Hodges played well as the closing pitcher and would later get on base right before Anslee Bailey hit an inside-the-park home run to reach the final score; no doubt encouraging the Lady Eagles to continue their fight for a high region ranking.

The Putnam girls have a busy week coming up, playing tonight (Thursday) at Athens Christian, then two games at Barrow Arts and Sciences Academy in Winder on Sep. 10, followed by a Sep. 13 region game against Washington County, and a trip to Jasper County in Montecillo the following day.

Their next time at home is Sept. 15, at 5:30 p.m., in a non-region game against East Laurens High School.
