The recipe for early school success is simple: start school with strong literacy skills.
Ferst Readers’ recipe for encouraging early literacy development is even simpler: ensure children have developmentally appropriate books in their homes and provide parents with resources to support them in their role as their child’s first teacher.
With just over a week left to reach its goal, Ferst Readers of Greene and Putnam Counties encourages everyone to help them reach their $18,000 target in order to give new, free books to 500 local, young children.
Ferst Readers is grateful for the generosity of the following local business who have donated gift certificates as raffle prizes. Raffle tickets are $36, and each ticket purchased gives the donor 2 Ways 2 Win.
The first win is the gift of 12 new age-appropriate books to a child; the second win is a chance for one of the 20 fabulous prizes donated by the following: flowers from Z. Grant Designs; shopping at Bend the Trend, Broad Street and Main Antiques and Home Décor, Camille & Company, Madeleine Page Footwear & Apparel, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Olive + Hive, Paper Soiree, Ripe Thing Market & Eatery; and dining at Brickhouse Grub & Pub, Café 44, Dueling Piano Bar (Macon), El Sitio Mexican Restaurant, Filet Steak & Seafood, Georgia Butts, Lake Oconee Bistro, Pedro’s Mexican Grill & Cantina, P.J.’s Coffee, The Rabbit Hole, and Silver Moon.
Save the date for the drawing to be held 7 p.m.
Monday, Oct 3, at Lake Oconee Bistro. You do not have to be present to win, but we hope you will join us and enjoy dinner there.
As a publicly funded non-profit organization, Ferst Readers promotes the development of early childhood literacy skills in children from birth to age 5, especially those who need the most help with getting access to age-appropriate books for their homes. Please be a literacy champion for young children in Greene and Putnam Counties by supporting Ferst Readers.
Tickets can be purchased from any Ferst community action team member or from Cathy Mize at 478-4547150, Carol Kuhn at 443-867-2012, or Dianna O’Keefe at 706-467-3765. For those who would like to donate but don’t want to participate in the raffle, donations are accepted online at bit.ly/GreenePutnamAdoptaReader. The gift of literacy is the gift that lasts a lifetime!
