The Rotary Club of Greene and Putnam Counties hosted its bi-annual Shoes 4 Kids event Sept. 17, in which 50 local students loaded into school busses in the early morning hours and headed for the Shoe Carnival store in Augusta.
While on the way, the students were treated to complementary chicken biscuits, courtesy of Chickfil- A Lake Oconee. Upon arrival, they were greeted by members of the Rotary Club, other volunteers and Shoe Carnival staff.
Shoe Carnival once again opened the store exclusively for the event and offered additional discounts and snacks.
As always, the staff there was attentive, reliable and happy to be a part of this program.
As part of Rotary’s Shoes 4 Kids event, each student was able to select a new pair of shoes, a book bag, socks, and a book.
Rotarians, other volunteers, and staff of the Shoe Carnival were on hand to help with these selections.
Additionally, shoes were purchased for several Greene/Putnam specialneeds children who were unable to attend and were delivered to these students after the event.
The Rotary Club wishes to thank Rev.
Avis Williams, Putnam County Charter School System representative, for helping to organize the students. Also, the Rotary Club offers a special thanks to Shoe Carnival Store Manager Jeanette Oldham and her excellent staff for opening the store early and providing shopping assistance and snacks to the children, and to Josh Waddy of Chick-fil-A Lake Oconee for providing chicken biscuits.
The Rotary Club thanks each and every one of them for all their help in making this event so successful.
