VOLLEYBALL: Mixed results for Lady Eagles

Putnam County High School (PCHS) volleyball had a mix of triumph and trouble last week, leaving the team ranked fifth in the Area 4-AA region standings.

The Lady Eagles faced both Laney High and Richmond County Technical Career Magnet (RCTCM) Sept. 27, in Augusta. PCHS went into both games strong, winning over both schools.

The final scores for the games against Laney were 25-10 and 25-16, leaving Putnam soaring into their game against the RCTCM Tigers.

The Lady Eagles lost their winning streak, however, dropping 25-5 in the opening game. But, in an intense battle, they outmatched their opponent in Game 2, winning 27-25, which led to a tiebreaker that gave the match to Putnam after they put up 16 points to RCTCM’s 14.

Winning over RCTCM was huge for PCHS as the game was vital to their region's volleyball standings.

Two days later, the Putnam volleyball girls were back in action at home against Piedmont Academy and Rabun County for non-region games.

Putnam played Rabun first, facing a harsh first set that resulted in a 25-4 loss. The Putnam girls battled back in the second game, though, keeping the score close but ultimately falling 25-19. It was a disappointing result but demonstrated the Lady Eagles’ determination and resilience remained intact.

After Piedmont and Rabun played with Rabun County dominating, the Lady Eagles had to face Piedmont Academy. The girls did not let either game become an easy win for Piedmont, battling it out with close but unsuccessful efforts both times, finishing 25-20 and 25-22 to lose the match.
