An Eatonton man was arrested after he fired a gun in the parking lot of a local bar this past weekend, according to jail reports.
Kennell Lamont Jordan, 38, of Oakwood Drive, Eatonton, was arrested around 3 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, by Putnam County Deputy Sheriff Mark Adams.
Jordan was charged with discharging a firearm on property of another, discharging a firearm while under the influence of alcohol, and misdemeanor reckless conduct. He was released on property bonds totaling $2,527.
Sheriff Howard Sills said a call came in to 911 around 1 a.m. regarding a fight in the parking lot of Who Cares Bar and No Grill on Greensboro Road in Eatonton.
The caller said gunshots had been fired, and also said the couple had been arguing inside at the bar earlier.
The deputy reportedly found a broken fingernail, a necklace, and a 9mm cartridge casing in the parking lot when he arrived.
The victim, a Dallas, Georgia resident, said she and Jordan had dinner at the Lake Oconee Bistro earlier that evening, “and had a good time and everything was fine,” Sills read from the witness’ statement. When they left the Bistro, the couple went to Who Cares to play some pool. At some point during their time at Who Cares, the victim said Jordan’s facial expression changed and he began to make threats of violence.
The victim reportedly said she walked out of the bar to leave in order to avoid more confrontation and was trying to get to her car when Jordan hit her, breaking off one of her fingernails.
When she got in her vehicle, he put his head in the passenger side window and said, “kill me,” and then fired a handgun into the passenger seat. No one was injured in the shooting, Sills said.
“But again, here’s a situation that’s a result of the state law not requiring a license to carry a gun,” the sheriff added. “Am I saying that a license would stop all the shootings and murders? Not at all; but people no longer worry about carrying a gun wherever they please, and it ends up causing these kind of problems.”
Jordan was not at the bar when the deputy arrived, but was tracked down later, Sills said.
“And the perpetrator admitted to the deputy that he shot the gun and told him ‘Take me to jail,’ so the dutiful deputy did just that,” he added.
