A 17-year-old high school student was arrested Oct. 3 for fighting at school, according to Putnam County jail reports.
Charlecia Welch, 17, of West Jesse Porter Street, Eatonton, was charged with disruption of operation of public schools, fighting in public place (affray), reckless conduct (misdemeanor), and simple battery. She was taken to Putnam County jail, where she was released on $2,967 total property bonds.
The fight began with two juveniles at one of the bus ramps at Putnam County High School, said Sheriff Howard Sills. Welch told deputy Christopher Donovan that she stepped in to intervene and defend one of the juveniles.
A teacher attempted to break up the scuffle and Welch reportedly struck the teacher, Sills said, hence the simple battery charge.
The juveniles complained that Welch also sprayed them with pepper spray, but Welch claimed it was hand sanitizer. No container of hand sanitizer or pepper spray could be found, Sills said.
Juvenile complaints were filed against the two juveniles, he added.
