An Eatonton woman lost her life in a single-car crash over the weekend, the case is still under investigation, authorities said.
Leslie Irene Gunnels, 59, of Eatonton, was dead when emergency personnel arrived and pronounced dead at the scene by Putnam County Deputy Coroner Pat Welch.
Around 5:30 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 16, Gunnels was traveling alone in her 2008 Chevrolet Malibu along Pea Ridge Road SE, according to Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills. As she rounded the curve at Possum Point Drive, her Malibu left the road and crashed into a large tree.
Sheriff Sills and Coroner Hollis Harrison said an autopsy is being done by the State Crime Lab to determine the cause of death.
