Eatonton Police Department officer Mike Hancock responded to a call at Piggly Wiggly Oct. 13 regarding false money orders, according to police reports. Shanita Denham had cashed two money orders for $1,000 each; and her sister, Dametric Dennis, had cashed one for $1,000.
Hancock’s investigation revealed the money orders were fake, and that the two women had been paid a sum of money by another person, approximately $50, to go cash the money orders, according to Eatonton Police Chief Howell Cardwell.
Shanita Genea Denham, 34, of Montgomery Homes, Eatonton, was arrested at 9:15 a.m. Oct. 14 on two counts of printing, executing, negotiating drafts knowing information is in error or fictitious, according to jail reports.
Dametric Shonta Dennis, 38, of Hillside Drive, Eatonton, was arrested at 7:26 a.m. Oct. 14 on one count of the same charge.
Chief Cardwell said other arrests are pending against other parties involved in the case.
“I appreciate the great job officer Hancock did on this,” the chief added.
