Vehicle crashes into store; no injuries reported

A vehicle crashed into the Quick Pantry on Oak Street Sunday afternoon, Jan. 8; no one was injured but the driver was arrested, authorities say.

Ronnie Williams said his brakes failed as he was pulling into the parking lot and a parking space of the convenience store around 3:40 p.m., according to a report by Eatonton Police Department Sgt. Howard Clemons.

Williams’ 2001 Nissan Frontier crashed into the front of the store, damaging the brick wall across the bottom of the windows, the glass window, and some of the machines inside the store. Clemons’ report also says a gas pump was damaged.

Williams was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured nor required medical treatment, but his SUV reportedly received some minor damage.

Ronnie Rickie Williams, 57, of Shady Dale Road, Eatonton, was charged with one count each of defective or insufficient brakes, DUI – alcohol less safe, driving with suspended tag, and no insurance.

Bond was set at $3,283.50, according to jail reports, but Williams was still in jail Tuesday, according to a spokesperson at Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
