The Gatewood Gators track-and-field team hosted Bethlehem Christian, Trinity Christian of Dublin, Brentwood, Briarwood, Twiggs Academy, John Hancock Academy and Windsor on March 29, in its fourth-consecutive home meet of the year.
In the boys’ 100-meter dash, Gatewood’s Evan Bennett finished in 2nd place with a time of 10.99. Bennett then won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.85.
In the boys’ 400-meter dash, Jackson Lundy was 3rd, while Luke McNeil placed 5th in the boys’ 800-meter run, and Cale Ferguson finished 6th in the 1600-meter race.
Jayden Daniels finished 5th in the boys’ 110-meter hurdles and Landon Moreno placed the same in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles.
The boys’ 4x100-meter relay saw Gatewood place second, but the Gators pulled off a win in the boys’ 4x400meter relay with a time of 3:43.00. The boys’ 4x800meter relay also delivered a second-place result to the Gatewood team.
In the boys’ long jump, Ames Johnson covered 18-03.00 to come in 6th, while JT Gregory jumped 33-11.75 in the boys’ triple jump to also place 6th. The boys’ pole vault saw Gatewood take both top spots as Noah Bennett and Dakota Davis tied at nine feet even.
In the boys’ discus, Blake Daniel threw 94-05.00 to place 6th, and the boys’ shot put saw Evan Bennett threw 41-06.25 to come in second, with Noah Bennett 6th at 35-09.00.
In the girls’ 100-meter dash, Natalie Sills was 2nd with a time of 13.34 and Presley Moss came in 5th. Madison Hevesy was 3rd in the girls’ 200-meter dash for Gatewood, followed by Presley Moss in 4th place.
Moss moved up to 2nd in the girls’ 400-meter dash, while Ellie McMillan came in sixth place with a time of 1:10.84. In the girls’ 800-meter race, Ansleigh Hillin placed 5th but improved to 2nd in the girls’ 1600-meter run.
In girls’ 100-meter hurdles, Anna Williamson placed 3rd and London Darden was 6th. Hevesy won for Gatewood with a time of 49.80 in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles, followed by Anna Williamson in 4th.
In the girls’ 4x100 meter relays Gatewood’s team placed 2nd and finished the same in the girls’ 4x400 relays.
Sills tied for 5th in girls’ high jump, while in long jump Moss came in 4th and Hevesy jumped 32-07.50 in girls’ triple jump to take the event win.
Bethlehem Christian won the overall boys’ meet, with Gatewood close behind in second, followed by Trinity Christian. In the girls’ overall competition, Brentwood scored a dominating victory, followed by the Gators’ girls and again Trinity Christian.
According to track-and-field head coach Jeff Ratliff, his athletes have shown good improvement so far this season, but there’s still more hard work to come.
“We have been getting better and better. We are close to finalizing all of our region spots, but we still need to find a few missing pieces,” Ratliff said in a message emailed to parents and fans. “We will attempt to find those pieces when we return from spring break.”
Gatewood will host its fifth-and-final meet of the regular season on April 12, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
