PCMS closes out T&F season

Putnam County Middle School closed out its track-and-field season on April 15, in the 2023 Piedmont Athletic Conference MS Championships at Walnut Grove High School in Loganville.

Going into the event, the Putnam County team was coming off big wins as individuals and as boys’ and girls’ teams after taking first place at the Redskin Invitational early last month at Social Circle.

The War Eagles arrived in Walnut Grove determined to make the most of everything they learned and trained for this season. Top finishers for PCMS on the ladies’ team included 6th grader Journey Waller and Alexis Evans who finished first and second, respectively, in the 100-meter dash.

Also finishing first for Putnam was another 6th grader, Anisha Pitts, in 300-meter hurdles, as did the girls’ 4X100 relay team, while the PCMS 4X800 quartet finished fifth.

Distance runners also performed well, with Emma Patrick taking second in both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter races while fellow Eagles Leland Fordham was fifth and Raegan Ogden sixth in 3200 meters.

Rounding out the day in field events for the Lady Eagles was Alexia Evans second in the long jump, Faith Watkins third in the triple jump, Aubree Butts fifth in the high jump, and Taylin Kelley also fifth in the shot put.

On the boys’ side, PCMS team results were led by yet another 6th grader in Koleman Foster with a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash and a third in 200 meters, John Vanstone fifth in 3200 meters, followed by Braxton Sestak sixth; and PCMS boys took fourth in both 4X100 and 4X800 relays.
