Woman dies after accident with deer

A woman driving a scooter last night was thrown from the scooter when she hit a deer, according to authorities. She succumbed to her injuries later at Putnam General Hospital.

The victim, Misty Renee Hunnicutt, 48, of Eatonton, was traveling along Wards Chapel Road around 8:30 p.m. when she apparently struck a deer, Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said.

"The reason we say she hit a deer is because parts of the scooter had deer hair on them," he explained.

The impact, which happened approximately one-half mile past the Great Waters entrance, caused Hunnicutt to be thrown from the scooter. Hunnicutt was not wearing a helmet and suffered traumatic head injuries, according to the sheriff.

Another driver on the road came upon the scene and called 911. Hunnicutt was still alive when Deputy Mark Adams arrived on scene while being treated by Putnam County EMS and taken to the hospital, but she died at the hospital.
