The Stitches of Love crochet group, from Eatonton First United Methodist Church, delivered six prayer shawls on Monday to Putnam General Hospital (PGH), where they will be given to recovering patients.
Stitches of Love members Lou Rodeheaver, Donna Birt, and Debbie Skinner presented the shawls to PGH Case Manager Lisa English and Chief Nursing Officer Pam Douglas with promises of more to come in the months ahead. They also offered crocheted cross-prayer cloths for patients and/or family members needing a little extra comfort.
Rodeheaver spoke about what a blessing it is to be able to provide these shawls to others, describing a time she well remembers while recovering herself in a hospital and what comfort these crocheted works of art can provide. All three visiting ladies emphasized it is a blessing to provide support and care to PGH patients and the Eatonton-Putnam community.
Skinner mentioned the shawls have previously been given out on request, with some delivered to distant states, including Montana, Nebraska, and Kansas, while others have gone as far away as Argentina, despite the Stitches of Love group having done this for only a short while.
English said she was excited about the generous, heartfelt gift to PGH patients and very grateful to “these wonderful women.
