Handyman accused of stealing laptop from work site

A handyman is in jail after reportedly helping himself to his clients’ belongings, authorities say.

The man was working on a house on Angeline Circle installing exterior siding. The residents went out of town for a few days, according to Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills. When they came back, they noticed a flowerpot under a window had been moved.

The worker, identified as Brandon Taylor Henry, said he had used the window to go inside because he needed to charge a tool. The residents later discovered other things in the house had been moved and their laptop was missing.

An investigation revealed Henry was convicted of criminal trespass earlier this year and was on probation with a search waiver. Because Henry had gone into the residents’ home without their permission and something was missing, Sills said he had reason to question Henry.

“So, I went to the place where he was staying, and the stolen laptop was sitting right out in the open on the dashboard of his car,” Sills said.

Further search of the “non-operable motor home on the edge of the woods on Clubhouse Road” where Henry was staying revealed numerous drugs, the sheriff said.

Brandon Taylor Henry, 31, homeless of Eatonton, was arrested Aug. 23 and is being held in Putnam County jail without bond on charges of felony burglary first degree, possession of methamphetamine, possession of Schedule II controlled substance (dextroamphetamine), two counts of possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance (alprazolam and clonazepam), and probation violation.
