Thrive Foundation helps PPH patients to thrive

“Never underestimate the power of the mind, the importance of love and faith, and never stop dreaming.” So said Martin Pistorius, now a healthy 48-year-old South African man who lived much of his childhood completely coherent, but in a paralyzed, unresponsive body.

With the support of the THRIVE Foundation and committed donors, the Peaceful Purpose Hospice (PPH) Three Wishes Program has been able to fulfill the dreams of terminal patients for the last five years.

As hospice care focuses on end-of-life care, PPH embraces the mind’s power, love and faith with holistic support, and most importantly, encourages patients to never stop dreaming.

PPH patient Beatrice Towers told her hospice care team about her love of shopping and dining out. Since becoming wheelchair-bound, daily activities have been limited to the home for Beatrice, but once the PPH team learned of her local favorite dine-in restaurant, Longhorn Steakhouse, and her joy in retail shopping, a plan was set in motion.

With collaboration from Beatrice’s son and granddaughter, Peaceful Purpose Hospice was recently able to grant two wishes in one outing.

PPH home health aide Porsha Smith and licensed social worker Brandiss Marks went above and beyond with the preparation and accommodations to accomplish the mission of the Three Wishes Program.

Donations from the local community and a caring team allowed Beatrice, in addition to many other patients receiving end-of-life care, to witness that dreams do come true. Regardless of the situation, illness, or loss, one should never stop dreaming.
