A Greensboro police officer driving home from work came upon a woman “driving all over the road” in Eatonton late Thursday night, according to Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills.
“She was going all over the road going into the turn on Hwy. 16 and driving so badly that he called 911 and turned on his blue lights and tried to stop her,” Sills said and explained that even though the officer was outside of Greensboro’s jurisdiction, he is authorized to intervene anywhere in the state that he witnesses a crime endangering others.
Eatonton Police Department officers Dillon Waldroup, Christian Waldroup, Sgt. Eli James, and Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Adams all responded to assist Greensboro’s Officer John Kyle in the chase to stop the driver.
Kyle had seen the driver driving across the center line into the other lane and even hit a guardrail, so he called 911.
The driver, later identified as Jennifer Hood Sasser, ran over a curb and off the road on East Sumter Street and was headed directly toward the Rossee Oil Company store. Eatonton Police Officer Dillon Waldroup conducted a PIT Maneuver to keep her from hitting the store.
By then, Deputy Adams had blocked the exit of the parking lot with his vehicle, and Sasser “drove right into it and hit his car,” Sills said.
Jennifer Hood Sasser, 49, of Milledgeville, is in Putnam County Jail facing charges of DUI Drugs 3rd, aggravated assault against law enforcement officer, failure to maintain lane, felony fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, and two counts of misdemeanor fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
Sills said Thursday night’s arrest was Sasser’s sixth time to be arrested for DUI.
