Gatewood Middle School wins 4th-straight state shotgun championship

Gatewood’s middle school shotgun shooting team traveled to Forest City Gun Club in Savannah on Oct. 13, to compete in the GIAA Middle School Shotgun Invitational, where it won the state championship for the fourth consecutive year.

There were 176 students participating from 25 schools and each shooter fired 200 shots. The top three shooters determined team scores, with Gatewood finishing first for the fourth-straight year after breaking 523 targets out of 600 available.

Gatewood’s top-three shooters included Carson Lingle at 195, Ford Rocker with 167, and Jack Davis at 161 targets broken.

Gatewood also had several podium placements overall with Lingle’s 195/200 the top overall score. He also placed first in skeet with a perfect 50/50 score, first in trap at 48/50, and first in sporting clays with a 97/100 score.

Additionally, Gatewood’s Lilly Kent Rainey placed second in female skeet shooting with a 44/50 score, third in female sporting clays at 72/100, and fourth overall for female shooters with a 153/200 total score.
