The Kiwanis Club of Eatonton recently announced that Kai Trott of Putnam County High School and Gatewood High School’s Saige Nobis have been recognized as STAR students.
Additionally, Kai was named the countywide winner for having the highest SAT score in Putnam County.
This is the 66th year Kiwanis has recognized STAR students and teachers.
Kai is the son of Rainey Gallagher and the stepson of Jack Minchey of Eatonton.
He chose William Bollen, his Honors Geometry teacher, as his STAR Teacher. Kai plans to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology to major in computer engineering.
Saige is the daughter of Trulie Myers and stepdaughter of Kelly Myers from Buckhead.
Saige named her Advanced Placement U.S. History teacher Robin Allen-Peters as her STAR Teacher. Saige is leaning toward attending Furman University and majoring in communications.
Both Kai and Saige, plus the STAR teacher for the countywide winner, received monetary awards from Kiwanis.
Kai will now compete for region honors. In addition, the region winners compete to be named State PAGE STAR Student. STAR teachers continue with their STAR students at every level of the program.
The Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE) Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program, now in its 66th year, is sponsored, administered, and promoted by PAGE and the PAGE Foundation.
Since its creation, the STAR program has honored nearly 29,000 students and the teachers those students named as having the most influence on their academic achievements.
To obtain a 2024 STAR nomination, graduating high school seniors must have the highest score on a single test date on the SAT and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average.
