Having committed ourselves to attending City Council and County Commission meetings, I am asking again that more residents pay attention to what is going on in our local politics.
If democracy is the most important part of the constitution, can someone please explain why it is okay for a County Commissioner to put together an advisory committee without any public input? The committee is to set out what will next be needed at Jimmy Davis Park (JDP), a committee handpicked without consultation, public notice, or agenda.
It took over 250 people marching to the courthouse to convince the county to do right by JDP. I sincerely hope that these committee meetings will be open to the public and that minutes published. So many people want to help JDP become a park that is inclusive, diverse, and enjoyed by all residents in Eatonton.
Our children are our future, and their innocence can help our community move forward.
