Gators' winning streak comes to an end

The Gatewood Gators’ win streak came to an end on the diamond last week as they dropped their Friday matchup against The Heritage School 5-4 in Newnan.

But the following day brought new life for the Gators, who beat Bethlehem Christian 3-2 in Eatonton. Wilson Moore got the Saturday start on the mound for the Gators and came out hot striking out three batters in the first inning.

Offensively, Gatewood took control early with an Ames Johnson single followed by a Wilson Moore RBI single, scoring Johnson to give the Gators a 1-0 lead.

The next two innings both teams went scoreless with Gatewood’s Wilson Moore earning a pair of strikeouts along the way.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, Jayden Moss hit his first career home run on a line drive to left field, extending the Gators’ lead to 3-0.

In the top of the fifth inning, the Knights pulled within one run, scoring two on an error.

Lawson Moore pitched the final two innings for the Gators helping secure a 3-2 victory to push the Gators to 12-3 on the season. Starting pitcher Wilson Moore pitched 4.2 innings, striking out six batters, walking four, and allowing two hits and two runs.

Moore also had a perfect 1.000 batting average for the game, reaching base three times with a single in the first inning, a double in the third, and a walk in the fifth.

The Gators will face some very tough competition on the road this week, traveling to Pinewood (15-2, 7-1) in Bellville on Tuesday and then to First Presbyterian Day (17-3, 6-2) in Macon on Thursday. The Gators will return home on Friday to host Pinewood with game time starting at 5:30.
