CCR tribute coming to The Plaza

The Plaza Arts Center is bringing the bayou to Eatonton next month, with the Georgia Players Guild doing an outdoor tribute show to crowd favorite Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR).

The CCR catalog of music has stood the test of time through multiple generations. Georgia Players Guild’s (GPG’s) show “Fortunate Sons' seeks to honor and prolong the awareness of this timeless band's musical contributions to the community. The show promises to create memorable moments by paying homage to a legendary band's ability to reach musical highs while also occasionally addressing important social issues.

For example, Green River, a song written about John Fogarty’s childhood vacation spot, is a perfect example of how great music can bring back equally great memories. Likewise, songs like “Born on the Bayou,” “Run Through the Jungle,” and “Susie Q” take listeners on an expressive, near-psychedelic journey of guitar musings, providing an excellent representation of the band’s improvisational influences of the day.

Other songs like “Commotion,” “Down On the Corner,” and “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” showcase CCR’s commitment to the craft of songwriting. Meanwhile, classic sing-a-longs like 'Up Around the Bend,' 'Lookin' Out My Backdoor,' 'Long as I Can See the Light,' and more complete a perfectly balanced night of music that every CCR fan will know and love.

Members of the Guild’s Fortunate Sons band have individually appeared on network TV shows like America's Got Talent and onstage with musical giants such as Derek Trucks, Oteil Burbridge, Ed Roland of Collective Soul, and even gospel/R&B legends like Kim Burrell and Jennifer Holiday. From its home base at the historic Strand Theatre in Marietta, Fortunate Sons popularity has grown nationwide.

Fortunate Sons is a product of The Georgia Players Guild, an agency of touring tribute shows across the country. Since 2014, GPG has staged hundreds of performances of more than 30 different shows, paying tribute to over half a century of iconic music. No matter the band or genre, GPG performers go beyond just getting the songs right, they seek to make the experience as true to the original as possible.

GLG’s Fortunate Sons takes the stage outside at The Plaza at 7:30 p.m. May 11, with lawn tickets just $25 and VIP tickets available for $50 each. Purchase tickets online at plazacenter.org or by calling The Plaza office at 706-923-1655.
