With school soon ending, many parents and grandparents are trying to figure out how to entertain their young ones for the next few months. Summer camps can be a great option, providing lifelong memories for kids of all ages as they have fun and build self-esteem through social interaction, trying new things, learning new skills, and discovering hidden talents.
All these experiences are crucial building blocks for kids.
Whether it’s knowing they can try and succeed at something new, learning it’s okay to try, fail, and try again sometimes, or just developing the confidence to be themselves around others, summer camps can help build essential life skills – something critical to anyone at a young age.
To help support these benefits, The Plaza Arts Center in Eatonton offers two summer weeklong camps to entertain, teach, and keep the young ones busy.
The first is Camp Broadway for rising 3rd through 8th graders, held June 3-7 in collaboration with The Arts Barn.
Campers will explore acting, song, and dance combined with theatre games that hone acting skills and how to engage as an ensemble member.
Camp Broadway culminates in a performance for family and friends at the end of the week. It takes place daily from 12:30 to 4 p.m. and costs $175 per camper. Registration is now available online at app.arts-people.com/index.php.
The second camp is The Plaza’s Art Camp, guaranteed to be a hit every year for rising 1st through 5th graders. Campers will create new projects daily, ranging from basket weaving to painting. This camp includes plenty of outdoor time spent making art in nature.
Art Camp will be held July 15-19 at the cost of $125 per camper, and again with registration now open online at app. arts people. com/index.php.
Scholarships are available for both summer camps. Please call The Plaza’s office at 706-9231655 for scholarship information. For more information on either camp or other programs at The Plaza, visit online at plazacenter.org.
