Centenarian appreciates family and friends

Lifelong Eatonton resident Peter Mae Davis celebrated her 100th birthday on June 5, surrounded by her family and friends.

Born to parents Peter and Clara Mae Harris, Peter Mae grew up with just one sister, Allen Freeman, who passed away in 2009 after battling cancer.

Peter Mae married J.D. Davis in 1947, and they remained together for 62 years until his 2009 passing. Together, they raised Barbara Mack, 76, Patricia Mosley, 73, Jennette Johnson, 70, and the lone boy in the family, JD Davis Jr. In addition, Peter Mae has three grandsons, three great-granddaughters, a son-in-law, and a daughter-in-law.

Peter Mae spent most of her life as a housewife, nurturing her children and supporting her husband while also occasionally doing domestic work within the Eatonton community.

She continues to have a great memory and still prepares her own meals. She also loves going shopping at Walmart and Big Lots in Milledgeville. At home, Peter Mae enjoys watching television, with her favorite shows being The Price is Right, Judge Judy, Law & Order, and the Bobby Jones Gospel Hour.

Peter Mae also loves to talk with anyone she meets, particularly with fellow seniors, about what’s going on around town while they ride on Putnam County’s local transport bus.

Because Peter Mae is the oldest person in her neighborhood, her neighbors have become her guardian angels, always willing to lend a hand. They visit every day, just to make sure she is okay, and she is very grateful for their concern and help.
