Breaking the conditions of his bond got one local man and his roommate arrested, according to authorities.
Jonathan Patrick Sayre, 53, and Thomas Derrick Burgamy, 49, both of Steel Bridge Court, were arrested at their home on July 23 during a “probation search” of their house, according to Putnam County Sheriff’s Lt. Harry Luke.
“We had arrested him (Sayre) in late February, but probation let him back out and didn’t put a hold on him,” Luke explained. “We kept getting information from the neighbors that they appeared to be fooling around with meth, so we went back and did a probation search at the residence.”
When Sayre was arrested on Feb. 27 for possession of drug-related objects and methamphetamine, Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit Judge Terry N. Massey released him on a $2,500 bond until his trial. A short time later, Sayre’s public defense attorney, Kevin Stroberg, went on a Leave of Absence for several months, according to Putnam County Superior Court records.
Several of the bond conditions included that Sayre could not violate any laws, would not ingest or possess alcohol, illegal drugs, or other controlled substances, and would submit to a search of his person, residence, papers, vehicle, and/or effects at any time without a search warrant.
Luke and a Jasper County Sheriff’s Office investigator conducted the search on July 22 and not only found methamphetamine in the trailer Sayre was living in, but they also discovered Burgamy residing there as well.
“Burgamy had warrants out of Atlanta that had been outstanding for over a year, but he moved to the wrong county,” Luke said.
Sayre was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, and Burgamy was charged with parole violation and possession of methamphetamine. Both men are being held without bond in Putnam County jail.
