The Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District, which manages and directs natural resource management programs in Baldwin, Greene, Hancock, Jones, Morgan, Putnam, and Taliaferro counties, recently held a Georgia Association of Conservation District’s poster contest for public, private, and homeschooled students from third through fifth grade.
Each year, the winning posters reflect GACD’s annual stewardship theme and highlight the work of conservation districts to protect and enhance natural resources. This year’s theme was “May the Forest be With You, Always,” promoting the importance of Georgia’s forests.
Three winners from third through fifth grades were chosen from many creative poster contest entries.
First-place winner Emmi Watson, a student at Morgan County Elementary School, won $75; second-place winner ShaDiamond Carswell., a Marvin E. Lewis Sr. Elementary School student, won $50; and $25 went to third-place winner Kourtney Gibson, also of Marvin E. Lewis Sr. Elementary School.
Emmi’s winning entry will also be submitted to the GACD statewide poster contest.
Each winner received their certificates and prizes on Oct. 1 at the Rock Eagle 4-H Convention Center in Eatonton during the PSWCD’s annual Conservationist of the Year banquet, presented by GACD Northeast Regional Program Manager Dana Tripp and Piedmont SWCD Chairman Andy Dyar.
