Thanks to Appleton Episcopal Ministries AEM) in Macon, local students served by the Putnam Christian Outreach (PCO) Backpack Ministry have each been given a book and a craft project.
Appleton Board PCO Vice-Chair Julie Groce and Program Director Corley Peth recently visited PCO in Eatonton to deliver more than 200 age-specific books and a corresponding craft for each child. These items will be distributed with the food the children receive in their backpacks each week. This marks the second time Appleton has donated books to the PCO Backpack Ministry.
Originally founded in 1868 as an orphanage, Appleton has always focused on children's needs. With financial assistance from New York benefactor William Appleton, Macon’s Appleton Church Home opened in 1870 to serve the orphan daughters of Confederate soldiers and quickly widened its doors to girls who were not orphaned but whose families were challenged to care for them.
Appleton Episcopal Ministries seeks to partner with as many parishes as possible in the Middle Georgia Convocation of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta to promote children's and families' health, safety, education, and well-being.
Appleton currently provides program and discretionary grants to support ministries, including tutoring, arts and reading programs, campus ministries, food assistance, and emergency support for foster families. To learn more about Appleton, visit appletonepiscopal.org or visit PCO at pcoicares.com.
