An Eatonton man has been arrested in the Aug. 30th death of another man, according to authorities.
Sean Cameron Barrett, 22, of Lena Lane, was arrested Friday by Walton County Sheriff’s Office deputies on warrants issued by Putnam County on charges stemming from a fatal accident, Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said.
Keandre “Dre” Linorris Briscoe, 24, of Union Chapel Road, Eatonton, was killed in the crash, which happened at the start of the Labor Day holiday weekend. Barrett was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, and Briscoe was in the passenger seat. He reportedly was not wearing a seatbelt.
According to previous reports, one of the men was moving from his residence, so he pulled a homemade trailer behind the Tahoe. As they rounded the curve at 170 Scott Road, Barrett lost control of the vehicle. The Tahoe went off the road, clipped a utility pole, and it broke in half. Residents and businesses in the area were without electricity for approximately four hours after the crash.
The trailer was dislodged from the Tahoe during the crash. The SUV flipped, went down an embankment, and landed upright in the shopping center’s paved parking lot, a few feet away from one of the buildings.
Sills said Putnam County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicholas Fazio had just responded to a burglar alarm nearby on Scott Road and was first on the fatal crash scene.
PCSO Sgt. Tyler Woodard, the Putnam County Fire Department, and Putnam County Emergency Medical Services also arrived on the scene. Barrett reportedly walked around the parking lot, talking with emergency personnel. Sills said deputies took him to Putnam General Hospital, where a blood sample was obtained for an alcohol test.
“He complained of injury but refused treatment,” Sills said. “Barrett’s arrest was delayed because it simply took from August up until now to get back the blood alcohol test results from the GBI’s crime lab.”
Barrett is being held in jail at Putnam County Sheriff’s Office on charges of felony homicide by vehicle in the first degree, DUI, open container in vehicle, speeding 76 in a 35, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, no insurance, and seatbelt violation.
The bond was set at $17,000 at a Monday hearing but had not been posted by The Messenger’s press time.
