GWM announces 4th annual writers’ retreat

Whether a writer, published author, or aspiring author, Georgia Writers Museum in Eatonton will bring together budding and experienced wordsmiths for its fourth annual Writers’ Retreat, Feb. 21-23. The retreat will present a powerful weekend of writing workshops, networking, and fun and informative experiences.

Working with advice and assistance from the Atlanta Writers Club, the museum has been honored to welcome notable authors from across the South. Together, they have formed a creative and supportive environment for writers to work on their craft and gain powerful tips for publishing from some of the South's best, most prolific writers.

Convening in Eatonton, the retreat is nestled in the center of Georgia’s literary heartland. Nine Distinguished Georgia authors lived, worked, and wrote within 30 miles of the Georgia Writers Museum.

This extraordinary event will feature a keynote luncheon by bestselling author Lo Patrick on Saturday. More than a dozen instructors will conduct workshops and panels on the craft and business of writing, and there will be ample time for networking.

“We are excited to host Lo Patrick as this year’s keynote. She is among an outstanding group of keynote speakers who have been featured at our annual retreat,” Georgia Writers Museum’s Executive Director Melissa Swindell said. “We’ve welcomed Pulitzer Prize winner Alice Walker, New York Times best-selling author Joshilyn Jackson, and two-time Super Bowl champion Bill Curry with his wife and author Carolyn.”

Patrick grew up outside Atlanta before attending Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. She completed law school at the University of Miami, graduating magna cum laude, then began writing and moved back to Georgia.

Her debut novel, The Floating Girls, was a finalist for the prestigious Townsend Prize for Fiction. It was named one of 2023’s Books All Georgians Should Read by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and The Georgia Center for the Book and was a Reader’s Digest editors’ pick.

Her second book, The Night the River Wept, is also highly acclaimed and named a “Hot New Summer Read” by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Patrick’s next book, Fast Boys and Pretty Girls, will be released in July.
