Amy Moore Mitchum passed away on January 13, 2025, at age 67, in Winston-Salem, NC.
She was born to the late Willard Moore and Imogene Johnson Vincent on May 13, 1957, in Macon, GA.
She was fierce and witty, always making those around her laugh. Amy loved reading, antiquing, classic movies, and cats.
Most of all, she loved her family. Amy was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister.
She is survived by her three sons, Bryan (Jennifer) Mitchum, David (Brittany) Mitchum, and Stuart (Robin) Mitchum, and her eight grandchildren, Emmitt, Gabriel, Grace, Ryleigh, Corbin, Kara, Emmalee, and Taryn. She is also survived by her two sisters, Jill Vaughan and Cheryl (Ronnie) Williams, as well as a host of other family members.
Amy graduated from Putnam County High School in 1975. She became a Registered Nurse in 1977, earning an associate’s degree in nursing from Georgia College in Milledgeville. She worked as a registered nurse for several years in Milledgeville, GA.
Amy went on to work in the tobacco industry. She held a role in quality control with Brown & Williamson before working in research and development for RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company. In 2021, she retired after a rewarding career.
Her sons Bryan, David, and Stuart were her pride and joy. Together, they had many adventures (and quite a few misadventures too). Their time together was filled with laughter and joy. She loved every minute. Amy was a woman of many talents. She played the piano with gusto, drew detailed pencil sketches, and knew how to spin a yarn. She was an expert in the kitchen, where she experimented often.
A food connoisseur, she was always on the lookout for new recipes. No guest left her home hungry. Amy faced life with strength, resilience, and a sense of humor. She was a bright light to all who knew her.
Her family and friends will deeply miss her vibrant spirit and kind heart.
Visitation will be held on January 25th, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Eatonton, GA.
The graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. at Forsyth City Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Wounded Warrior Project at woundedwarriorproject.org, Second Harvest Food Bank at secondharvestnwnc.org, or to a pet charity of your choice.
