A Putnam County EMT and local nurse was severely injured in a car crash on her way to work recently.
Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said Angela Franklin, 58, lost control of her vehicle during the recent ice storm while driving to her job in the emergency department at Putnam General Hospital.
According to a report by Putnam County Sheriff’s Sgt. James Barbee III, Franklin, drove southbound on State Route 142 in a Ford Explorer on Jan. 22 around 7:50 a.m.
As she crested a hill near Beaver Dam Road, her SUV hit a patch of ice. It then slid across the roadway and off the northbound shoulder of the road, down an embankment, crashed through a wooden fence, and head-on into a tree.
Franklin wore her seatbelt, and multiple airbags were deployed inside the SUV. She was taken by Putnam County EMS to The Medical Center, Navicent Health Hospital in Macon, for treatment of serious injuries.
Family members said Franklin is recovering at home.
