Three Eatonton men were recently captured and arrested in Davisboro following a manhunt.
According to a media release by Washington County Sheriff Joel Cochran, the three are accused of attempting to drop off illegal items at Washington State Prison.
Around 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, WCSO deputies learned of a possible attempted contraband drop at the prison.
“Upon arrival, a deputy spotted two males trying to toss an item over the prison fence before fleeing into a nearby cornfield to the east,” Cochran said.
Washington County and Georgia Department of Corrections K9 units quickly responded, and the manhunt began.
“And a short time later, the two suspects were located near a field located nearby,” Cochran said.
Meanwhile, another deputy conducted a traffic stop near the prison on Georgia Route 24 and, following a brief investigation, identified the driver as the getaway suspect, Cochran said in the press release.
Arrested were Amaris Zytrell Porter, 20, Roderick Antonio Sears, 18, and Darius Rashad Wimbley, 20, all of Eatonton, were arrested.
Each is facing charges of two felony counts of items prohibited by inmates, felony trading with inmates, felony trafficking ecstasy, felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and misdemeanor criminal trespass.
“The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the Georgia Department of Corrections, and other agencies will continue working together to make Washington County and state prisons safer for everyone,” Cochran said.
