After a successful 2024-25 season, the Putnam County Lady War Eagles had several players garner All-Region 4-AA honors.
Four players from Putnam County’s girls were named to the All-Region teams, which the coaches voted on. Head coach Derrick Arrington said it was great for the program to see so many of his players named to the list.
“It’s big for the program. It gets Putnam girls basketball back on the level that our community expects it to be on,” Arrington said. “Our fans expect us to play at a certain level and compete at a certain level. These young ladies making those teams shows that we’re making the right steps.”
Journey Waller was the lone Putnam player to make the All-Region first team after a breakout sophomore campaign. She was a starter for the Lady War Eagles and led them in several statistical categories.
Fellow sophomore Eryianna Little was named to the All-Region second team. She was one of Putnam’s best defenders this season and played a significant role on the offensive end as well.
Junior Jaikarcee Smith and freshman De’Nadia Dunn were also both solid defenders for the Lady War Eagles. They were named to the All-Region defensive team.
Putnam’s Melody Richardson, Kadyn Dennis, and Aziyah Williams made the All-Region honorable mention list as role players on the team and contributed in their own way.
The Lady War Eagles ended the season with a 16-10 overall record after a second-round finish in the Class A Division I state playoffs. Putnam also finished as region runner-up to Greenforest.
Putnam’s girls return all but one player next season, so Arrington is excited about the future of the program. He admitted he wants to see the team take the “next step” in year three of his tenure.
“Just taking that step year to year and getting closer and closer to the ultimate goal, it’s a good expectation for our girls basketball program,” Arrington said. “The bar is set real high, so it’s a good challenge. The girls are doing a good job of taking those short steps and learning as we go.”
