The annual Firefly Trail Ticket to Ride got underway in Union Point Saturday with cyclists from across Georgia taking in the scenic sights along the trail.
This event was hosted by the Union Point Downtown Development Authority and Firefly Trail Inc., with all proceeds supporting the trail’s continued development from Union Point to Athens.
The Ticket to Ride traversed through multiple cities along the Firefly Trail, and Union Point’s Union Theatre served as one of the rider hubs with registration, refreshments, and SAG support.
At 10 a.m., downtown Union Point turned into a lively street festival with the city’s Tracks to Trail Firefly Fest.
Despite the initial cold morning chill, people flocked to the festival. They had a great time exploring Union Point, watching the riders, and checking out artisan vendors that featured woodwork, candles, paintings, jewelry, delicious baked goods, and more.
The festival also included a relaxed one-mile walk along the trail for attendees of all ages. The walk started at Union Pharmacy and was led by registered nurse and certified health coach Latamy Worthen.
Music from The Tim Cardiere Band could be heard throughout downtown from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by John Dunn & The Jazzman Band from 2 to 4 p.m. Food trucks included CK’s Smokehouse, Dough Daddy Dough, Davi’s Pancakes, and Jayace’s Shaved Ice. Craft beer from Bruzze Brewing was also on hand for the thirsty.
One of the many highlights of the festival was a tour of the Union Point Historic Museum. For more information on the trail, please visit the Firefly Trail Facebook page.
