Annette Alford Castro was born in Buckhead, Georgia, on November 5, 1933, and passed away in New Orleans on August 6, 2024.
She graduated from Eatonton High School and moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she married Camilo Lathrop Castro in 1953. They lived in Chicago and Mexico City before settling in Montgomery, Alabama.
She is survived by her children Carmen Canavier (Don), Ana Srygley (John), Rafael Castro ( Jimmy Deadwyler), and Michael Castro; her grandchildren Mark Lipscomb (Brittany), Kevin Canavier, and Brian Canavier (Kristi); her step-grandchildren Mairin Srygley (Owen) and Leland Srygley; her great-grandchildren Carly Lipscomb, Halston Canavier, and Cody Canavier; and her niece Marlene Powers and nephew Darren Alford.
She was preceded in death by her parents Georgia Bell and John Edward Alford, her husband of 41 years Camilo Castro, an infant Camilo Ricardo Castro, her brother James Edward Alford and her niece Janice Deraney.
A visitation will be held on August 17, 2024, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Schoen Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St., New Orleans, Louisiana, followed by a memorial service celebrating her long and full life at 4 p.m.
